Everyday Life in a War Zone - photo exhibition of daily life in Afghanistan Introductory lecture and reception

Woman photojournalist Farahnaz worked in Herat until 2007 when she was forced to flee the country with only the youngest of her four children.
The photographs show scenes of almost normal life, such as shopping, school, work and play, weddings, and celebrations, interspersed with distressing scenes of the results of conflict and violence. The woman’s perspective gives them a special impact.

Toppings Literary Evening with Antonio Carluccio and Gennaro Contaldo
Over 30 years ago Antonio Carluccio and Gennaro Contaldo separately left their native Italy for Britain where, in time, they met, worked together and established themselves as leading authorities on Italian cooking. In this compelling book – written to accompany the primetime BBC series – the two old friends have embarked upon an amazing journey back to their homeland to reconnect with their culinary heritage, explore past and current traditions and reveal the very soul of Italian gastronomy.

Shoebox Fun Day - the launch of Operation Christmas Child 2011
Come with a friend and see what fun it is to do a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child this year. Brilliant new ideas for shoebox gifts and fun activities for children! Join the knitting circle, with your current shoebox knitting, and take home new patterns and wool. Watch a sewing demonstration and an expert covering boxes with wrapping paper (100 he’s done already will be on sale!) Find out more about the shoebox destination countries. Talk to Roger from Samaritan’s Purse who has been on many distribution trips. Volunteer to help with the processing in November and be inspired by the new DVD – the shoebox team hope to see you.

Bath Older People Show
If you, a member of your family or friends, are concerned about the issues which come with ageing then this event will be of interest to you.
This event features an interesting and informative selection of presentations on a host of issues specifically relating to older people including health, finance, care and legal issues.
There are also a range of stands from leading local charities and organisations dedicated to supporting older people who will be pleased to provide advice and information.

Bath Amnesty hosts an evening celebrating Amnesty's 50th anniversary. Speaker: Rod Morgan, expert advisor to the Council of Europe on custodial conditions and the prevention of torture. Plus world music from local favourites the Walcot State Choir.

Bath Spa Band 90th Anniversary Concert
The Bath Spa Band 90th Anniversary Concert will be a promenade concert, featuring an exciting programme of music. The music will be selected from a wide range of styles, including both classical and contemporary. Expect some audience participation, as the concert climaxes with sing-along, last night of the proms classics. It promises to be an entertaining evening for all the family.
