WELCOME

We want to think carefully about the way that we welcome people to St Michael’s whether they be locals or visitors to the city, whether they are attending a service or an event or just meeting friends in the cafe. How can we do that better? Do the building and surroundings, the noticeboards, the website reinforce and express that welcome?

People: We are open almost every day of the year and want to continue to be. Welcome teams at services, staffing at events and the cafe team are all very important to achieve the aim of people feeling welcomed, relaxed and at home. Whether they want to sit off in reflection, engage with others, just wander or buy a coffee, St Michaels is a unique place in the city centre that offers a difference. To reinforce that we need to be open to training, expand the welcome team and make the cafe sustainable. We want to find out what it means to be dementia friendly and welcome those with learning difficulties. We want to increase the type and number of services we offer  to create a range of contemporary, reflective and traditional gatherings, but to do that we need people to offer their time, talents and energy.

Building & Surroundings: To help people find us we need to ensure our visual identity is clear and our use of social media relevant and useful. Our signage & communication outside is the first point of welcome, are we utilising this effectively. Improving disability access, the sound and visual equipment and operating a safe building will build confidence to offer invitation.
